We went to district magistrate office and they told us that they will issue the character certificate (which is issued after police clearance though).
But requirement for visa is PCC I believe.
Is Police Clearance Certificate issued by the passport office?. Or is character certificate ok.
Any idea how much time it might can take ?
A police clearance certificate (PCC) or background check is required from your local districts police department in all the cities you've lived since you were age 16 to present.
You will need to submit your passport to your local passport office in charge of your locality and they will do their own background check on you and if everything comes back OK, then they issue you their PCC.
